As a process-driven artist, Renee Phillips explores the transformative potential of color and materiality of paint. Using color as the raw material, and her body as a conduit, she creates tactile compositions of sculpted paint that drip, ripple, crack, and pool off the surface.

“Meditation Studies” serve as Phillips entry point to the sensory filled language of color. Each shade is first examined on small wood panels to determine viscosity in relation to time and temperature. Latex paint is poured on and manipulated with the element of gravity; each color revealing a unique textural detail she calls “the signature effect”.

These studies become an invitation to reflect on the nuance of color, and the space it inhabits, both in our mind and physical body.

The daughter of a scientist and a lover of nature, Renee grew up between the South Florida beaches and the Colorado mountains and, at a young age, learned through hands on exploration of her environment.

She received her BA in Fine Art from the University of Miami, FL, and continued her art education at the University of Paris, France, and the School of Visual Arts in NYC.

Phillips first major public art commission will commence in November 2025 in West Palm Beach, FL. Her art studio is located in the 1608 Studio Building in West Palm Beach, FL.
