Nancy Winarick learned to knit at the age of six, taught by her aunt who sparked a lifelong passion for the craft. She was also drawn to fashion from an early age and was fortunate to merge her two interests professionally as a knitwear designer. Over the years, she developed one-of-a-kind pieces for prestigious fashion houses, including Vera Wang, The Row, Carolina Herrera, Isaac Mizrahi, and Diane von Furstenberg.
In 2009, Nancy relocated to Mexico’s Pacific coast, where she began to experiment freely with yarns and techniques. This creative freedom led her to design rugs and other pieces for her new home. That body of work gradually evolved into a distinctive style that has earned praise both in Mexico and the United States. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and homes in Mexico City, Manhattan, and the Hamptons.
Describing her creative process, Nancy explains, “I typically start with some kind of reference, then I tweak it by using a different yarn or by modifying the design. My pleasure is witnessing how a piece develops. All of my pieces have a life of their own, typically driven by the yarn and the inspiration it brings.”
She is continually seeking unexpected ways to use knitting and crochet, with a particular interest in creating textural, sculptural, and dimensional forms.
