Lucia Pompetti is a New York City based artist whose work straddles the world of decorative interior artistry and fine art. Lucia's installations and sculptural pieces reflect her playful curiosity and ambition to push the limits of the materials she uses, and blur the lines between the objects and the setting they are viewed in. Her works draw upon an eclectic set of references, including 19th and 20th century home interiors, folk objects, and theological artifacts. Her Italian heritage is often a focal point of her artwork, dealing with themes of familial connection, childhood, and Italian art history. Lucia's love for sewing, altering, and embellishing clothing and objects in her everyday life has led her to collaborate on fashion projects as well as video art. She has been working as a decorative painter, primarily using techniques of Venetian plaster, limewash, and custom hand made tiles since 2022. Her professional experience in the world of decorative arts bleeds into her ceramic artwork with use of technique, material and ornamental design. Following her residency at Ceramica Suro, she had her first solo show, ‘Icons Wear Clay,’ in 2021 at Garage in Guadalajara, Mexico. She has since completed residencies at The Watershed in Maine and at C.R.E.T.A. Rome, where she had her most recent solo show “Divine Containers” in 2023 at the C.R.E.T.A. gallery. In 2024 her work was included in the pop up show “Dwellings” at Jane Gallerie.
