LISBETH MCCOY
Place was a form of language for Lisbeth McCoy (1962-2024), addressing the existential question: who we are and how we are shaped by our place of origin and the places we pass through on our journey, that is, life. Using shape and material, she connected with the contingency of life and place, from an internal place . In “Bumppo II” (2017) ellipses and curvilinear lines evoke the sense of continuity and familiarity.
The impact is psychological and connected to memory, nostalgia, and aesthetics.
Born on the island of Fyn in Denmark, Lisbeth McCoy was a multimedia artist based in New York City. She received her MFA cum laude from the New York Academy of Art. McCoy’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, including Anders Wahlsted Fine Art, NY, Jason McCoy Gallery, NY, as well as the New York Academy of Art, among others. Her work is also included in private collections in the United States and Europe.
