Lena Harms, born on 6.6.1988 in Munich, originally comes from the field of product design but has been working with clay since 2017. Her pieces are made exclusively using coil and slab techniques. She rarely uses glazes, preferring instead to design with inlays of different types of clay or paint with clay slips. Even her tea and coffee cups become works of art in their own right—nearly like paintings. Through this approach, she aims to make clay perceptible as a natural material, highlighting its raw beauty.

Her inspiration comes from nature—its shapes, colors, roughness, and earthiness, as well as the contrasts within it. She is also constantly inspired by the colors and patterns found in traditional craft techniques from various cultures.

Lena has come a long way from her first pieces to where she is today—not only in terms of skill, but also emotionally. Her work reflects a deep longing for a different life, one close to and in harmony with nature, a life she often misses while living in the city. Each ornament symbolizes her ongoing search for identity and her longing for the exotic, the wild, and the free.

She never quite knows whether she prefers making cups, vases, or teapots. What matters most to her is that each piece she creates is not just functional, but soulful—something that touches the user deeply and awakens a feeling within them.

In today’s hectic world, Lena strives to make a statement through her slow, mindful way of working. Although trained as a designer and familiar with mass production, she has consciously chosen to step away from it. Each of her pieces is created with peace and deliberation.
