Jaclyn Mednicov is a multidisciplinary artist working with natural materials—flowers, weeds, and wild botanicals—often gathered at the edge of decay. She presses these plants into clay, capturing their fragile textures to create fossil-like impressions. The clay may remain as the final form or serve as a mold for casting materials like clay slip or acrylic paint. This repetitive, meditative process constantly reveals new surfaces, patterns, and unexpected forms.
Personal experiences, especially the loss of her father, have heightened her awareness of life’s fragility and the temporary nature of all living things. Jaclyn sees nature as a metaphor for time—its fleeting beauty reflecting both personal and collective impermanence. Her work aims to hold that tension: to memorialize what was, while acknowledging the ongoing process of change. Each piece captures a moment in time, a trace of what once was and still remains.
