The world emerging from the interaction of Nature and the Creative Human Spirit is the greatest source of inspiration for Gerbi Tsesarskaia’s work. She enjoys playing with concepts of Home, Time, Escape, Belonging, Balance and numerous others by creating porcelain forms that embody or respond to these concepts while also exploring the essence and materiality of the most seductive, pure and noble medium of porcelain. Gerbi's art to a great extent is informed by traditional and contemporary ceramic art of Japan, Korea and China, European Porcelain, African textiles and the wealth of experience of living and travelling throughout the vast expanses of Russia and Europe.
Gerbi was born in the republic of Ukraine, formerly part of the Soviet Union and now lives and works in Miami, Florida. In 1980 she graduated from Marine Technical University with MS in Mechanical Engineering in St.Petersburg, Russia. In 2005 she graduated from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida with M.F.A. in ceramics. Since 2005 Gerbi has been teaching at local universities as an adjunct professor of ceramic art as well as working as an independent artist in residence at the Bakehouse Art Complex in Wynwood Art District, of Miami, Florida.
